Scott is the Office Managing Partner of Grant Thornton’s Chicago office and has spent his entire professional career in public accounting.
Scott has broad-based industry experience and has served as the tax partner on clients in the consumer and industrial products, technology, services, energy, transportation, and not-for-profit industries. He has primarily served middle market and mid-cap public companies during his career. Similarly to his industry experience Scott has a wide range of technical experience ranging from corporate mergers and acquisitions, accounting methods, partnership taxation, and tax issues effecting individuals. In 2005, he was named of the Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners by CPA Magazine.
Scott began his career with Arthur Andersen in Tulsa in 1974, joining the tax division as a staff accountant. He was admitted to the Partnership in 1986. In 1997 Scott joined the Chicago office of Grant Thornton to head the Tax Practice. In May of 2002 he was asked by the Firm to transfer to Kansas City to assume the Office Managing Partner position. On August 1, 2004 he transferred to Denver as the Colorado Center Office Managing Partner. When the Chicago Office Managing Partner position became open in early 2005 Scott applied and was appointed to that position as of August 1, 2005.
