Chip Hardt is a Principal in McKinsey & Company’s Chicago Office. Since joining the Firm, he has helped develop strategic and operational change programs for companies in the industrial, high-tech sector, and public sectors. He is a leader in the North American Automotive and Assembly Practice and a member of the North American Operations Leadership Team. His client work includes:
§ A major retailer develop a growth strategy, redesign its corporate governance model, and improve its store operations
§ A major heavy equipment manufacturer conduct a global lean transformation, with emphasis on supply chain and manufacturing
§ An international consumer electronics company conduct a turnaround strategy, as well as capture sourcing savings in its direct materials
§ The CEO and Board of a large technology services and leasing company, and a major automotive parts manufacturer, conduct strategic turnaround activities as an Advisor in Bankruptcy
§ The City of Chicago develop the strategy and compete for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games
§ One of the world’s largest property and casualty insurance companies change its claims strategy and redesign its procurement practices
§ Two major state governments identify and capture procurement savings, including the transformation of one state’s operations strategy, core processes, organization, and knowledge management
Before joining McKinsey, Mr. Hardt was an officer in the United States Navy. He served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff as a strategist for affairs in the Persian Gulf and West Africa, worked for the Chief of Naval Operations as a strategic planner for the Middle East, and completed assignments as a helicopter pilot and Division Officer, leading and managing line personnel.
Mr. Hardt graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with bachelor degrees from the Moore School of Engineering (mechanical engineering) and The Wharton School (entrepreneurial management) in 1985. He received a masters degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University in 1992, and an MBA, with distinction, from the Harvard Business School in 1994. He was elected a partner in the Firm in 2001.
