Charles Martin is President of the North American Consumer Products Group for ACH Food Companies, Inc., a $1.6 billion subsidiary of Associated British Foods. In this capacity, he leads the consumer products group whose portfolio includes such leading brands as Mazola, Capullo, Argo, Karo, Fleischmann’s, Tone’s, Spice Islands and Henri’s salad dressings. ACH is also the industry’s leading supplier of retailer branded cooking oil products and olive oils and is a leader in retailer brand non-dairy creamers. ACH is recognized as one of the emerging and highly successful mid-cap consumer products companies.
Mr. Martin has earned a reputation as a highly capable executive at conceptualizing and implementing strategic business plans and marketing campaigns, building brands and launching new products. Spanning 25 years, his general management and marketing leadership includes a diverse set of consumer branded businesses, distribution and supermarket operations, acquisitions and entrepreneurial ventures.
From 2000-2003, Charlie was President and Chief Operating Officer at Five Continents Ltd. where he doubled company revenues, scaling the ethnic food distribution business and launching a new retail supermarket concept, “Food Harbor, World Fresh Supermarket.” Prior to this, Mr. Martin served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of ASE Consumer Products Company, a division of ConAgra, leading consumer branded businesses including Healthy Choice, Butterball, Armour, Swift, and Echrich. He was Group Vice President of the Frozen Foods Division of Pet, Inc. where he managed businesses including Van de Kamp Seafood Company, Pet Ritz brands, and Old El Paso frozen Mexican products. He played a significant role in the merger of Pet, Inc. with Pillsbury in 1995.
Mr. Martin’s early career included seventeen years with Kraft Foods, Inc., where he held Vice President of Marketing positions for the New Ventures Group, the Frozen Foods Group and the Grocery Products Group. Mr. Martin ultimately held the position of Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Promotion for Kraft General Foods, North America.
Mr. Martin serves on business as well as non-for profit boards as a strategic and management advisor. In his capacity on the Executive Committee and Board of Junior Achievement of Chicago since 1988, he has helped lead the Chicago organization from 24,000 to 300,000 participating students; making it the largest business and educational partnership program in America. He earned a Masters degree in Marketing and Finance from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Krannet School of Business at Purdue University. He and his wife, MJ, have three sons and reside in Western Springs, IL.
