Lucas Roh is president, chief executive officer, and a founder of Hostway Corporation, a provider of award-winning Web hosting services and online business tools. In 1998, Roh began Hostway with a mission to provide value-based hosting services to an emerging market of small businesses looking to establish an online presence. Roh founded Hostway believing that a superior product, combined with excellent customer service and the best IT talent, would produce a company that would emerge as the market leader.
As president and CEO, Roh is responsible for overall company strategy, including product direction, research, customer service, marketing and finance. Roh has grown Hostway to include more than 400,000 customers in 9 countries, and more than $70 million in annual revenue. Hostway has been profitable every quarter since its inception and has never relied on outside capital.
An entrepreneur at heart, Roh also founded Wavetech Corp., asoftware company established in the late 1980's in Colorado. Prior to joining Hostway, Roh was a computer scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. At Argonne, Roh worked on pioneering research in the emerging field of automatic differentiation. As the principal investigator, Roh received federal and corporate grants for research focused on incorporating software compiler technologies into computational mathematics. Roh has also authored or co-authored more than 20 published academic papers. Prior to his work at Argonne, Roh taught at Colorado State University. Before his graduate work, Roh had six years of extensive software and hardware engineering experience with several companies including Tektronix and Hewlett Packard.
Lucas has been recognized as one of Crain’s Chicago Business 40 under 40 and is a recipient of the prestigious KPMG Illinois Hi-Tech Award. He has also been inducted in to Junior Achievement's Hall of Fame and the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame
Roh received his undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Chicago in 1988 and a doctorate in computer science from Colorado State University in 1995.
